Fresh and Local Food for Everyone.
The availability of locally grown food at farmers markets is growing and communities are benefitting from the cooking demonstrations, music, nutrition education, and activities for children which are becoming more common in our modern markets.
SNAP/EBT and Double-Up Bucks
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offers nutrition assistance to eligible, low-income individuals, including children, senior citizens, and families. SNAP helps households improve food security, reducing the number of people who skip meals because they don't have the money or resources to buy enough food. In Mecklenburg County, SNAP is also known as Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).
