Interning and volunteering with Mecklenburg County Public Health are great ways to learn about and contribute to the great work we do in the community. We understand that meaningful internships help ensure a well-rounded and prepared public health workforce now and for the future.
Prior to accepting interns, we must have an Affiliation Agreement between Mecklenburg County and the student’s college/university. Please note that the process to establish a new agreement can take a few months.

Case Management and Health Partnerships
The Case Management and Health Partnerships Division comprises the Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA); Community Alternatives Programs (CAP); Maternal & Child Health Programs, including Care Management for At-Risk Children (CMARC) and Care Management for High Risk Pregnancies (CMHRP); Trauma & Justice Partnerships, including Child Development-Community Policing (CD-CP), Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT), and Community Assistance: Respond, Engage, Support (CARES); and Women, Infants & Children (WIC).

The Clinical Services Division comprises Adult & Adolescent Health Clinic, Immunization Clinic, Laboratory Services, Medical Records, Mobile Health in Action (MHiA) Program, Patient Services, MeckDental Pediatric Dental Clinic & Mobile Dental Unit, Postnatal and Newborn Home Visit Services, Refugee Health, and Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic.

The Office of the Health Director comprises Administrative Services, including the Office of Vital Records and Total Quality; Epidemiology; Health Informatics Program; Office of Innovation & Strategy; Preparedness; and Workforce Development.

The Office of the Medical Director comprises Communicable Disease Control, including Child Care Health Consultants; Deputy Medical Directors; Nursing; Sr. Advanced Practice Providers; Employee Health & Safety; Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) Program; and Pharmacy.

Population Health
The Population Health Division comprises the Office of Chronic Disease Policy & Prevention; the Office of Health Equity, including the Community Engagement Program, Community Health Worker Initiative, Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH), and Village HeartBEAT Program; the Office of Violence Prevention; Resilience in Communities after Stress and Trauma (ReCAST II); and various division initiatives.

Preventive Health
The Preventive Health Division comprises Environmental Health, including Food & Facilities Sanitation, Groundwater & Wastewater Services, Pools & Environmental Health Services, and Planning & Support Services; HIV/STI Division, including Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE), Ryan White Program, STI/HIV Outreach & Case Management, and STI Investigations & Surveillance; and School Health.
